'Comment of the Week'

This week's 'Comment of the Week' comes via Awolf on the "White Guy Wearing Izod Doesn't Like White People" post. In the item, a guy in Burritoville, wearing a pink izod with the collar up revealed his thoughts on how badly the UES sucks, and how there are too many white people. In the post, I made a vague reference to the Facts of Life and stumbled to a point, never making it very well. To better illustrate, the scenario was very "Tea Partay," minus the pro-New England lyrics and downright hilarious.

In the comments Awolf asked:

"...what is the problem with a pink Izod? I am a 100% hetero male, but I wear a pink Izod often. I DON'T pop the collar though, that just screams DOUCHEBAG!"

First, Awolf, my not intention was not to offend or make fun of anyone's wardrobe choices, as I am not allowed to make fun of anything anyone wears -- because I wore acid washed jeans in the 80s.

Second, your comment was interesting because it begs the question -- is the collar pop alone a douchebag indicator?  I thought it would be best to check in with an expert, so I spent about 5 seconds at hotchickswithdouchebags to find out if a collar pointed north is a qualifier. The first sentence from the first post I read ("Gypsy Moth"), in which the purveyor of the site is idenifying a new trend, goes like this:

"It's hard to determine exactly when a trend turns into a full blown onslaught. But the mass replication of the Fauxhawk/Mohawk is undeniable at this point. It is rapidly replacing the popped collar as the single biggest giveaway of douche.

Not to resurrect the popped collar discussion but I thought I'd break the related news tonight: According to this week's "Approval Matrix" in New York mag (Oct. 8th edition), "the return of popped collars" falls in the Highbrow/Despicable quadrant. So, not sure how this sits with you cp'ers out there, but look on the bright side - at least you're not lowbrow..
