'Location' Filming, Squatters Could Get Towed

“No Parking” signs are plastered in various spots on 77th and 78th streets, as well as 1st and 2nd (btwn 77th and 78th), indicating that cars will need to be moved by tomorrow morning for the filming of the movie Location. The interesting thing here -- I’m pretty sure the parking spots on 77th and 78th are at least half taken by people who drop their cars for days at a time. There could be some towing action at roughly 5:00 AM tomorrow.

For those interested, Location synopsis via IMDB: “Location chronicles the struggles of a middle-aged location scout for a Hollywood adaptation of a Kerouac novel as he wrestles with the loss of custody of his 16-year-old daughter and the realization that the America he idealized has disappeared, if it every really existed at all.”

Reminder to all the street parkers -- alternate side parking rules are suspended on Tuesday (New Year's).

Less Parking On 72nd?

The Upper East Side's Transportation Committee is meeting tonight for the last time of the year and the agenda is packed full of parking and bus-related sexiness -- including a discussion of parking regulations on East 87th and a joint item with the Parks Committee. Pretty hot. The committee will also be considering a request to flip 30 feet of space on 72nd from "no standing" to "no parking." I know it's only 30 feet, but less parking?? Grreeaat.

Alternate Side Street Parking Suspended Tomorrow, Friday, Sunday, Monday

For you street parkers, the alternate side street parking rules are suspended for four days in the next week; Tuesday 11/6 for election day; Friday 11/9 for Diwali; and Sunday 11/11 and Monday 11/12 for Veteran's Day.

Your Car Might Have Been Towed

If you’re one of the squatters who parks for days at a time on 77th or 78th near York, your car may have been towed this morning, and you can thank the “Ghost Town” filming for that one.

Luckily, it probably isn’t that far away. The car pictured above was towed and dumped about a block away, on Second Ave. You have about a day to get the car before you start getting fined, according to the sticker slapped on the windshield.
