Below a few "what's up" emails that recently hit the 78thand2nd inbox. If you can shed some light, your intel is apprectiated in the comments.

77th and 2nd: I'm going to guess that this email submission from RK was an inebriated whim—based on the time sent (2:30 a.m.) and the location (in front of Brother Jimmy's on 2nd)—but nonetheless, he raises a question about the ubiquitous "1849" stickers plastered everywhere on the Upper East Side. RK asks: "Dude, I'm standing in front of Brother Jimmy's, what's up with all the 1849 stickers everywhere." I actually don't know. And my research—a google search—has procured nothing. Anyone with info, please hit the comments.

73rd and East End: The New York Department of Sanitation on 73rd is under close watch by Jason who writes: "Any idea what is going on at the DOS station on 73rd and the FDR? It's been under construction for a few months now and you can actually see all the way through to 74th Street, through the building if you look between where the temp doors are—couldn’t do that before."

There was a small crew out there this morning—directing a backhoe, standing around—and the guys on the scene confirmed construction was going on (looks like they’re clearing out the entire interior of that building?) but were mum on what the ultimate goal is. Any DOS-insiders out there?

Below, a round-up of some recent 'what's the deal with' questions from 78thand2nd readers from last week, followed by the latest updates. If you have an additional piece to the puzzle - enlighten us all in the comments section.

1) 75th and 3rd - Marshall wrote in last week asking what was going on with the former Loui Loui restaurant space on 75th and 3rd: "I heard a rumor that Citarella has purchased the space and plans to open its own restaurant there, any truth to that?"  That's exactly what's going on.  An inside source says Citarella bought the entire building and plans to open a restaurant in the space formerly held by Loui Loui.

2) 73rd and 1st - Michael wrote: "I noticed what might be movement/preparation for something in the space the formerly occupied by the Cocktail Room (on 73rd between 1st and 2nd)." The former Cocktail Room, which closed earlier this summer, is indeed getting an overhaul with some interior construction, no new tenants for the bar have been revealed yet.

3) 78th and 2nd - 78thand2nd commenter Ace raised a question: "Does anyone know why the liquor store next to Bardalino has been under renovations for what seems like forever?"  There's still no hint to what's going on -- the area businesses have no clue, area residents have no clue, there's no indication or hint posted in the windows -- what the hell is going on with this space?

1) 75th and 3rd - What's going on with the former Loui Loui restaurant space on 75th and 3rd?  Besides waging an aggressive campaign against posting bills, looks like a 'lil construction happening. Marshall writes in "I live on 75th and 3rd and yesterday, I saw a wood facade go up around the restaurant called Loui's, which closed a few months ago.  I heard a rumor that Citarella has purchased the space and plans to open its own restaurant there... any truth to that?"

2) 73rd and 1st - Michael writes "I noticed what might be movement/preparation for something in the space the formerly occupied by the Cocktail Room (on 73rd between 1st and 2nd)."  The windows have been given the once-over treatment with that "first sign of construction, don't look in here" paper, now blocking the views inside. Is the former Cocktail Room, which closed earlier this summer, being prepped for something?

3) 78th and 2nd - 78thand2nd commenter Ace raises a question I'd love answered: "Does anyone know why the liquor store next to Bardalino has been under renovations for what seems like forever?"  The spot has been closed for at least a year and a half, with no nothing happening there at all.

1) 76th and 2nd: Robert writes "Any idea what is coming to the old Chambers store spot on 76th and 2nd? Heard a rumor that it is leased by the owner of Mo's Caribbean...hope it is not yet another bank or cell phone store."

2) 73rd and 1st: Michael asks "I was wondering if you knew what was going to take the place of the bodega that recently closed on the northeast corner of 73 & 1? i was out of town for four or five days, and on my return i noticed that my corner store was gutted. there wasn't any notice."

3) 79th and York: Ace reporter Adam writes in "something is brewing on the northeast corner of 79 and York, previously inhabited by the Chase bank that moved across York a few months ago." Anyone have an idea what's going in? (the doors of this space are pictured above)
