In this week's "comment of the week" we spotlight OlympusNYC, who in the Best Gourmet Grocery Store post asks:
The biggest downer at Agata....the majority of unfriendly cashiers...but that's everywhere...right?
Unfriendly cashiers everywhere? Is there not a single grocery store on the UES with some friendly folks behind the counter? Please weigh-in in the comments with your thoughts.
Food Emporium at 86th and 2nd is awful!! I swear one of cashiers is the devil in the flesh. She even does her eyebrows to make her look more devilish and seems to get off on ruining peoples day.

to be clear..I did say the majority was unfriendly and I still stand by my statement. There are a few good ones. And in response to Marie, I'm not lookin' for chit-chat but a "hello" and "thank you" would go a long way towards my diminished expectations.
Other unfriendly cashiers - almost every Duane Reade cashier but I think there is another blog dedicated to that.

I don't think the cashiers at Agata are bad either. My vote for most unfriendly is the Gristedes on 3rd Avenue.

The girls behind the counter at Gristedes on 76th ARE CRAZY. There's the aggro one who's always fighting with customers...there's the Jamaican who's really nice but as nutty as Courtney Love, and the one that always talks about her daughter. CRAZY.

I don't find the cashiers at Agata that bad.
They are quick and don't waste time with chit chat, that's for sure. But I don't think they are rude or mean to customers. At least not in my experiences there.
