After stumbling across a Craigslist ad announcing the availability of an UES hardcore/metal/deathcore vocalist -- possibly the neighborhood's only one? -- my interest was obviously piqued, and an email or two later, the artist known as Nick agreed to a short email interview.
I saw your ad on Craigslist, how has the response been?
Nick: "So far the responses have been minimal, and I've put up a few postings for a deathcore vocalist. It seems like the scene for that kind of music in NYC in general isn't very large. When I put up postings for a deathcore vocalist, I get a lot of responses for people who are looking for someone who can do a lot of clean singing, and for a vocalist similar to bands like Silverstein."
What's the hardcore/deathcore scene like in NY?
"There isn't really a big scene for deathcore and hardcore in New York. I've seen and heard of some deathcore and hardcore bands in NY play, but other than once in a while, there aren't many bands who play that genre."
What's the UES scene like?
"Well for someone into death and hardcore, the upper east side isn't a great place to be. There's too many stuck up preppy kids, and not enough people into the metal. I advertise that I'm on the Upper East Side, but I never get responses for people on the upper east side. Most of the time the people are in Brooklyn or Queens. Queens has always seemed to have a good metal scene in terms of unsigned bands."
How long have you been singing and what's the dream gig at this point?
"I've been into metal in general for a while, and in terms of being a death/hardcore vocalist, I've only been into it for about a year. However I haven't been able to get in touch with any bands who are willing to play that kind of music. So at this point I really just want to get together with a serious band who wants to play either hardcore or deathcore."
Anyone equally serious about starting a like-minded band can get in touch with Nick at acrayondrawingmacabre@gmail.com.
this deathcore seems to work quite well and its a better idea to know this program and understand where this came from.
