A fire ripped through the apartments at the southeast corner of 78th and 2nd today, according to a tipster, and from the looks of the on-the-scene pic featured above, Italian restaurant Bardolino, which is situated on the ground floor of the building, was hit as well.
The tipster relays that Bardolino is “closed and looks a little gutted” but also notes that the damage to the restaurant "looks like it's just up front."
This is the third fire in the East 70s in the past week and the second on 78th -- is there a pyro running around?
If anyone has any insight as to what caused the latest fire, the comments are open!

SHEARS LOOKING AT YOU
Good news. The neighborhood barber shop lives! When the shutters went up over Peter & David's on 3d & 79th, I thought it wass all over for the local haircut. I don't count that guy on 78th between 1st & 2d as a barber. Once was enough,
BUT, by sheer (heh-heh) chance I saw a discreet red/white pole on 80th St, just around the corner from Rite-Aid, and there it was!
A two, maybe 3 chair place, $l4 and he listens!
He said he'd been open for three years.
Who knew?
He gave a great haircut. Next time I'll find out his name, nationality, who his people are etc. Didn't want to overwhelm him.

It was a small electrical fire started by their electrical sign. It wasn't as bad as one would think it was when looking at the current damage.
Everything was gutted as a safety precaution.

I almost cried when I walked by Bardolino last night around 6! It is one of my favorite places, and I eat there quite often.
However, when I went back around 8, they were cleaning up and had lights back and it was clear that the fire was only in the front of the restaurant. The back and the kitchen look fine, which is great for them.
The man that works there said they are hoping to do delivery only until the restaurant is fixed.

There was also a fire at East 77th between Park and Madison at the Carlyle House co-op yesterday. Even had the old hook and ladder out and in operation.

I had no idea about this and I live right around the corner on E77th Street. This concerns me a bit since this is the 3rd fire in the E70's in the span of a week.
