Bill T. seems to be a man who enjoys a proper haircut, and he writes in with an exuberant recommendation of a barbershop near 80th. Chances that he's connected to the shop? I'm guessing he's just a fan, but you can be the judge after reading his full review and comment:
"Good news. The neighborhood barber shop lives! When the shutters went up over Peter & David's on 3d & 79th, I thought it was all over for the local haircut. I don't count that guy on 78th between 1st & 2nd as a barber. Once was enough, BUT, by sheer (heh-heh) chance I saw a discreet red/white pole on 80th St, just around the corner from Rite-Aid, and there it was! A two, maybe three chair place, $l4 and he listens! He said he'd been open for three years. Who knew? He gave a great haircut. Next time I'll find out his name, nationality, who his people are etc. Didn't want to overwhelm him."
Anyone know the name / phone number of the barber shop in the 86th street stop? I'm getting my haircut at every subway barbershop in the city and that's the next one on my list. I'm due. subwaybarbers@gmail.com if you know and thanks in advance!

Follow-Up to my earlier comment: I coincidentally ran into Aron last night on my way home. He is now barber-ing at Gisu Salon on 83rd between 2nd and 3rd.
He said because he was so popular and busy at Ritu, they tried to raise his rent.
Thought I'd post in case others were looking for him.

I like that guy at 80th street between 2-3 ave. just around the corner from Right Aid Pharmacy. He gives a great haircut each time I go there.

Does anyone know what happened to Aron the barber? He worked under the 86th & Lex subway stop for many years but left about 6 months ago and rented space from Ritu on 1st Ave between 86th & 87th. Now he is gone from Ritu and I can't find him. I recently went to Clermont [1st b/w 82/83] as a stop-gap. I would recommend the young kid [dark hair, speaks some slavic language] over the old grey Italian guys.
Any help on Aron would be appreciated.

I much prefer the guy in 78th btw 2nd & 3rd. Only $14 and he is great. The guy who posted that message must be the same creep that plastered his card all over Alexanders on 79th when they got evicted for the demo. They barely had time to get their own sign up to their customers. Pretty low. I would not let them cut my dogs hair.

With such a hearty endorsement, I think this would be the place for me! I've tried too many places and been let down. Count me as #2 fan!
