Steve took the time to sit and email in a lengthy diatribe on the "outrageous" prices of bagels on the Upper East Side and he's taken particular aim at Tals Bagels on 86th:
"Tals are the most expensive bagels on the UES, 1.20 each (compare to H and H East on 80/1 @1.10 each). But what truly piqued me (hence this e-mail), was that they (Tals) charge an outrageous 1.95 for a bagel w/butter! I think HandH for example charges 1.35. Plus they (Tals) are the only bagel store I've ever seen that doesn't toast bagels. At least the bagels are very good."
$1.95 the most expensive?
Not on the UES but Murray's is pricey for un-toasted bagels. But they're delicious so you definitely get what you pay for!

Noshes, grouches and leaves.
"They" refers to Tals.
So it should read: "Tals charges an outrageous 1.95 ...." and "Tals is the only bagel store..."

I've had quite a few bagels toasted at H and H Midtown East... can't say I agree with that statement. IMO they are the best in the 80s. Bagel Works on 1st and 66th is also great... their works bagel is a masterpiece.
